Obituary: John "Stretch" Oles, Croton Firefighter

John Louis Oles died April 13, 2020 of COVID-19, at the age of 57. Mr. Oles was an active member of the Croton-on-Hudson Volunteer Fire Department, a past captain and a life member.

A longtime Metro-North employee, Oles was a machinist based out of the Harmon Support Shop.

"We are profoundly saddened by the loss of John Oles. John was a 28-year veteran of our agency," said Metro-North Railroad President Cathy Rinaldi. "He was beloved by his colleagues and will be deeply missed. His dedication to public service during this difficult time will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his wife Karen, who is also a member of the Metro-North family, and their two daughters, Kristen and Kimberly, during this unimaginably difficult time."
