The Joseph G. Caputo Community Center at 95 Broadway, will be open as a warming center Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as temperatures will be below freezing.

If needed, the center will be prepared to open as a staffed and operational overnight emergency shelter. A decision will be made Saturday.

Officials recommend that you prepare for the worst: keep flashlights and extra batteries at the ready, charge up your cell phones and laptops, and check in on elderly friends and neighbors.

In the event of a power outage, call 1-800-75-CONED, or text "REG" to "OUTAGE" to make a report. You can also download the ConEd app on your iPhone or Android smartphone to easily report outages and check on estimated restoration times — you will need to have your account number handy to register with the app, so be sure to have it on hand to get set up.

You can also use these services to report downed wires, which should also be reported to the police department.

After the storm ends, please be sure to shovel out any fire hydrants that might be near your property. Also, when clearing the sidewalk in front of your home or business, please shovel the full width of the sidewalk and not just a narrow path, Local law says this must be done within six (6) hours of the end of snowfall. We are all in this together!
