Ossining Girl Scouts Brighten the Town for the Holidays

Girl Scouts, Community Service, Caroling

What will residents of nursing homes, preschoolers at child care centers, and retirees in assisted living centers in and around Ossining have in common this holiday season? They'll all have smiles on their faces after hearing the joyous voices of Ossining Girl Scouts raised in song on Wednesday, December 14.

The event is part of the Ossining Girl Scouts' holiday activities that benefit the community. In addition to singing in nursing homes and similar facilities in Ossining, Briarcliff Manor, Croton, and Peekskill, Girl Scouts of all ages shop for children in needy families in Ossining public schools through the Family to Family program. Park School and Brookside School social workers match families with Girl Scout troops that volunteer to help them, choosing gifts that meet the children's wishes, wrapping them with love and cheer, and delivering them to the schools.

These events follow the Girl Scouts annual delivery of apple and pumpkin pies to the Ossining Food Pantry in time for Thanksgiving. This year, the girls baked 271 pies.
