Ossining High School Girls Embrace Adventure in Utah
Camping, White-Water Rafting, and Photojournalism Inspire Resilience and Empowerment
In late July, a group of young and adventurous students from Ossining High School embarked on a life-changing journey to Utah through the Open Roads program. The trip offered a unique opportunity for these girls to explore the great outdoors, experience thrilling adventures, and hone their skills as budding photojournalists. The OHS community couldn't be prouder of their strength and resilience throughout this exhilarating adventure.
During their unforgettable week in Utah, the OHS girls immersed themselves in a variety of activities, including camping and white-water rafting, all while capturing the beauty of the landscape through their lenses. The trip not only provided a platform for them to develop their photography skills but also served as a medium for self-discovery and personal growth.
Art teacher Yoojin Lin and Social Studies teacher Zaira Barajas played instrumental roles as chaperones during this exhilarating journey. Their dedication and support were crucial in ensuring the students' safety and cultivating an environment of learning and exploration.

Their creativity flourished amidst the breathtaking landscapes, and I'm excited to see how their experiences manifest in their artistic projects."
Ms. Barajas also shared her thoughts on the transformative experience, saying, "The Open Roads program not only allowed the girls to bond as a team but also empowered them to overcome obstacles with confidence. Following their return, the students are currently delving into their photojournalism projects, combining their artistic talents with their written reflections on the adventure. These projects will culminate in a documentary, which the students will present during the fall. The documentary will serve as a testament to their growth and accomplishments, inspiring others to embrace challenges and embark on their journeys of self-discovery.
The Ossining School District extends their gratitude to all involved in making this trip possible and for providing students with such transformative experiences. The Open Roads program has proven to be an exceptional platform for instilling values of resilience, cultural understanding, and environmental appreciation among our youth.
