Ossining Increases School Security

The new system will notify people outside a school building that there is a potential threat inside.

OSSINING, NY – School officials have had blue strobe lights with alarms installed on the exterior of all district school buildings.

These lights and alarms are intended to notify people outside the building that there is a potential threat inside, and they should not seek to enter; rather they should find a safe location away from the building until it is safe to return.

"We believe this will help us effectively communicate with students, families and community members during an emergency," said Superintendent Ray Sanchez. "It is important that if you should notice the lights that you remain a safe distance from the school. We ask families to remind their child of the purpose of the new alarm system. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me. As always, the safety and security of our students is our top priority."
