Ossining School Officials Gear Up For New Year [VIDEO]
As usual, the staff and students are dancing, and Ferris Bueller has some words of wisdom. Look for the police chief's cameo!
OSSINING, NY — The Ossining Board of Education has written its back-to-school letter to the community. The district administration has come up with its annual back-to-school video. Both are below.
Dear Ossining Community Members:
As summer draws to a close, the Ossining School District is finishing up preparations to welcome students to another exciting school year. Our custodial and construction employees have worked hard to ready our buildings, and teachers and administrators have attended trainings and curriculum development workshops.
From hosting hundreds of students in our extended school-year programs and Innovation Academy to our Ossining Loves to Read initiative with the Ossining Public Library, July and August have been busy months for children in the district.

These are some of the activities in our schools this summer:
Students in the AMD Summer Academy at Ossining High School spent a month evaluating the community and developing proposals for revitalizing Ossining.
Dozens of Brookside students and families attended summer reading jams at the school.
District staff members shared stories from around the world with Ossining families in Nelson Sitting Park each Wednesday.
Our mobile book van made stops at schools and parks to give out gently used books.
Parents of tweens and teens attended workshops the district sponsored in collaboration with the Ossining Public Library and Ossining Communities that Care.
For the second consecutive summer, the district offered a free Summer Food Service Program in partnership with the state and federal governments. The successful grab-and- go breakfast program, which the district implemented last year, continues in the fall. Visit www.oufsdbolt.com for more information.

We are welcoming more than 40 new teachers to our ranks this month, and we are pleased to have two new school leaders. Stephen Hancock, who has been with the district since 2012, is the new principal of Ossining High School.
Michelle Grier replaces Mr. Hancock as the principal of Roosevelt School. She comes to Ossining from the Bedford Central School District, where she was math department coordinator for grades 6-12.
The Ossining School District completed a number of construction projects and other improvements at schools this summer, including:
Ossining High School: Finishing new art classrooms and painting most of the classrooms and hallways
in the building.
Anne M. Dorner Middle School: Renovating classrooms and creating new guidance offices. Open Door
Family Medical Centers completed renovations to its space at AMD.
Roosevelt School: Installing a new floor in the gymnasium and expanding the nurse’s office. Cafeteria
renovations are scheduled to begin soon.
Brookside School: Installing a new roof before school starts in September.
Park School: The district expects to start a classroom addition project later this year.
The Board of Education would like to thank the community for its vote of confidence in our public schools, as evidenced by the support of the district’s 2017-18 budget. In the upcoming school year, the board will ensure that we make progress on our goals and continue to work hard to engage our community.
