Ossining Seniors Selected as Finalists in NASA's H.U.N.C.H Program
Students' achievement highlights school's dedication to STEM excellence; will showcase innovative prototype at NASA's Houston facilities.

Ossining High School proudly announces that seniors Shane Avenius and Luke Zebelman have been chosen as finalists in the Design & Prototype Project Division of NASA’s H.U.N.C.H Program (High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware). They emerged as finalists after a rigorous selection process, surpassing over 450 teams from across the nation.
The NASA H.U.N.C.H Program is a prestigious initiative engaging more than 2500 students from 46 states in project-based learning. Students participating in the program are tasked with developing innovative solutions aimed at enhancing life on the International Space Station (ISS).
“Ossining High School takes great pride in providing students with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities necessary to excel in prestigious programs like NASA's H.U.N.C.H.,” said Principal LaToya Langley. “Shane and Luke's selection as finalists exemplifies the dedication of our educators and the remarkable potential of our students when given the platform to innovate and create solutions for real-world challenges.”

Throughout the program, students have the opportunity to collaborate with NASA's world-class STEM professionals, while receiving guidance and feedback during two rounds of critical reviews. The top teams, typically comprising four to six projects, are then invited to present their final design prototypes to NASA Astronauts, ISS Program Office, and Engineering staff in Houston, Texas.
Shane and Luke will showcase their prototype, a robotic mobility arm named Kwadropus, which is intended for integration into an autonomous vacuum unit for the ISS. Their presentation is scheduled for April 17, 2024, at NASA's facilities in Houston.
