Ossining Student is Finalist for Child Mind Institute Award

Ossining High School student Natalie Calman was selected as a finalist in the Child Mind Institute’s competition for Rising Scientist Awards.

As a finalist, she received a $2,000 scholarship and will attend and share her work at the On the Shoulders of Giants scientific symposium through Hunter College. The Child Mind Institute and Hunter College will present the Rising Scientists Awards at the Oct. 5 event.

The Rising Scientists Awards go to students who have outstanding interest and achievement in psychology, neuroscience or biomedical engineering research, as well as strong academic performance in science courses and involvement in related extracurricular activities.

Through the Science Research Program at OHS, Natalie investigated the benefits of a short mindfulness training therapy on the emotional well-being of adolescents during the pandemic.
