Ossining Trustees Pull Funding for Roundabout

The vote was Wednesday night.

EDITOR'S NOTE — The roundabout which Ossining village trustees voted to defund had an estimated construction cost of $500,000. That amount was included in the original bond passed on Feb. 1 and defunded on April 26. The amount was incorrect in the original version of this article. Patch regrets the error.

OSSINING, NY — The Village Board of Trustees decided Wednesday night to remove funding from the roundabout they had proposed for the intersection of Main and Spring streets in downtown Ossining. They voted to defund Resolution Q, which had authorized borrowing up to $500,000 to rebuild the intersection.

Former Mayor Miguel Hernandez, a vocal opponent of the plan, pointed out that the vote doesn't mean the roundabout is totally dead.

"This effectively kills the Roundabout project for this year but does not necessarily kill it permanently," he wrote on the About Ossining - A Town Square page on Facebook.

The Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce, which spearheaded an unsuccessful effort to force a village referendum on the roundabout, declined to comment today.
