Ossining's Energy Initiative Transforms Learning Environments
Progress update highlights the District's improvements in lighting, climate control, and solar integration.
The Ossining School District is pleased to provide a progress update on its ongoing Energy Performance Contract (EPC), a significant initiative aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability across various school facilities. Under the dedicated leadership of Interim Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter, the district continues to make substantial strides toward its energy conservation goals.
One of the key components of the EPC involves improving the heating and cooling systems at Ossining High School. Notable accomplishments include the successful completion of piping work for steam connections, ongoing piping work for air conditioning, and the installation of new heat pumps on the rooftop. These developments will undoubtedly contribute to a more comfortable learning environment for students and staff alike.
Furthermore, exciting developments are underway at Claremont and Brookside cafeterias, where new rooftop-mounted air conditioning units are being installed. Ductwork, electrical, and roofing work has been completed, with the delivery of new rooftop units expected in early October. These upgrades will greatly enhance the overall comfort and climate control in these essential areas.

The district is also committed to sustainable energy solutions, as demonstrated by the progress on the Parking Lot Solar Array at Brookside. The installation of concrete pier foundations and underground conduits has been completed, with steel framework installation slated for the coming weeks. Solar panels and wiring will be installed during the school year, with ConEd transformer installation scheduled for Summer 2024. These efforts align with the district's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting renewable energy sources.
Additionally, the installation of rooftop solar arrays at AMD, Brookside, and Claremont schools will continue throughout the school year and into Summer 2024, further solidifying the district's dedication to sustainable energy practices.

Efforts to improve lighting and building envelope efficiency are also well underway. Classroom lighting enhancements will commence in the coming weeks, with work taking place on the second shift during the evenings throughout the school year. Simultaneously, insulation and weatherstripping improvements will be implemented during the school year's second shift evenings, further contributing to energy conservation.
Looking ahead, the installation of unit ventilators at Brookside and Claremont is planned for Summer 2024, marking another significant step toward optimizing heating and ventilation systems within these schools.
Interim Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter shared her thoughts on these updates, saying, "Our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability remains a top priority. The progress made on our Energy Performance Contract reflects our dedication to creating a more environmentally responsible and comfortable learning environment for our students. We look forward to the positive impact these improvements will have on our schools and our community."
The Ossining School District will continue to provide updates on the EPC's progress as it works towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
