Red Shoes Sunday

Local Houses of Worship Sponsor Kindness Event

[Briarcliff Manor and Ossining, New York] On Sunday, October 20, 2019, BOMA (Briarcliff Ossining Ministerial Association) will sponsor Red Shoes Sunday. Red Shoes Sunday is an event that invites people from the area, and really anywhere, to celebrate and practice kindness. There will be a 'celebration of kindness' gathering at the Scarborough Church (655 Scarborough Rd Briarcliff Manor, New York) at 4 pm on the 20th. All participants are invited to do some random and creative act of kindness the week before the 20th, and then on the 20th, come to the celebration. All those participating will either bring, or be given, a Red Shoes card, where they write the particular act of kindness that they created. At the celebration all those with a card will post it on the kindness wall. Hopefully there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of these cards, and much kindness to be celebrated. After the formal celebration, there will be a reception for all those attending.

This is meant to bring our communities together in a new way. It is called Red Shoes Sunday because the day was started in honor of a member of the Scarborough Church who passed away three years ago. His name is Bob Minzesheimer. He used to wear red shoes quite often. Converse. He also was one of those gentle souls who loved this community and worked for this community and made it better in so many ways. He was kind and lived kindness. So a very good way to remember him is to wear red shoes and be kind. We hope many will join us.

On that day, a collection will be taken to support the Ossining library that Bob loved and the Ossining Briarcliff Homeless Program. Please join us on that Sunday and the days before. Be kind, bring your noted kindness to be celebrated, and join together in our community, reaching out to one another, because as we all know, we need each other.
