Expect 'Slick and Icy' AM Commute Thursday In The Hudson Valley

Details on what to expect from snow showers Wednesday-Thursday for commuters (and students headed home from college)

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Winds will begin to drop after about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Then snow showers will swing through the river valley, forecasters are saying.

It's due to another one of those Alberta clipper storms rolling across the midwestern and northeastern United States this week, said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. They're characterized as low-moisture, fast-moving fronts.

"Accumulating snow is likely to remain south of Albany," Sosnowski said. "Snow will fall and accumulate in parts of the Catskills and the lower Hudson Valley, as well as the south coast of Connecticut."

It won't be much, but it could make for a messy Thursday morning on the roads, according to Hudson Valley Weather.

"A widespread dusting to an inch or two appear possible," said Bill Potter of HVW. "But even with the limited moisture, this could be enough to cause a slick and icy Thursday AM commute."

Not only that, but students heading home to the Hudson Valley from college may hit snow showers or squalls along the way. AccuWeather forecasters warned that several interstates, including I-68, I-70, I-78, I-81, I-99, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the New Jersey Turnpike, could be slippery Thursday morning. Drivers will need to watch out for Lake Effect snow as well.
