Teatown's Gala Honors David Swope, Brooklyn Botanic Garden & Open Space Institute
On September 24, over 300 supporters gathered to honor David Swope, Brooklyn Botanic Garden & Open Space Institute at Teatown's annual gala.

OSSING-CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY - From Teatown: On Sunday, September 24, Teatown celebrated the impacts of some of its most dedicated allies: David Swope, Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG), and Open Space Institute (OSI). The evening took place at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club, overlooking the Hudson River.
The history of Teatown is indelibly intertwined with this year’s honorees. David Swope, a prominent Westchester philanthropist and consistent leader at Teatown for many years, has enthusiastically championed improvements at Teatown including important partnerships with his fellow honorees.
OSI, a nationally recognized organization, has brought wide recognition to Teatown while helping it at many crucial junctures. Most recently, OSI donated a 40-acre parcel of land that is now a part of Teatown’s Overlook Trail.

When Teatown was founded in the 1950s, BBG not only accepted responsibility for the original gift offered by David’s family when no one else wanted to but it also sponsored the environmental education program which distinguishes Teatown to this day.
“We salute our honorees for all sharing the goal to preserve and protect open spaces for future generations to appreciate,” said Kevin Carter, Teatown’s Executive Director. “Together they inspire communities across our country to lifelong environmental stewardship.”
