• Crews respond to building fire in Owego (wbng.com) — Fire crews from Owego and surrounding departments put out an electrical fire Wednesday evening at Owego Free Academy on Sheldon Guile Boulevard, which caused significant damage near the aquatic center and community pool. No injuries were reported, and the building was turned over to Owego Apalachin Central School District maintenance after firefighters spent about an hour locating and extinguishing the blaze.
   

• Tioga County Sheriff Howard not seeking re-election (binghamtonhomepage.com) — Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard says he will not seek re-election next year, opening the race for new leadership that will affect law enforcement across the county, including Owego. Republican hopeful Frank Lavore, a longtime sheriff’s employee now working part-time for the Owego Police Department, is focusing his campaign on staffing shortages and officer safety, while former Captain Shawn Nalepa is also running.
