Family of Toddler to Establish Memorial Fund

The family of the little boy who died from injuries last week when a fence fell on him will be establishing a memorial fund in his name, according to a family member.

Relatives of 18-month-old Philip Amico will be establishing a fund in accordance with St. Mary's Health Care System in Bayside. The Amicos want to be able to send money to the hospital to help other children with brain injuries.

Police are continuing the investigation into what witnesses called a "freak accident" on Monday. Philip Amico was reportedly playing near a detached chain link fence at Ransom Beach late Monday afternoon when the fence suddenly fell on him.

In the meantime, the Amico family is mourning privately, having held a quiet funeral for Philip on Friday. Relatives say Philip's parents are seeking out the doctor who worked with Philip to thank him or her.
