Glen Cove Participates in International Coastal Beach Cleanup at Pryibil Beach

More than 50 volunteers participated in the International Coastal Beach Cleanup at Pryibil Beach on Sept. 20.

The volunteers joined the Glen Cove Beautification Commission at to make a clean sweep. Wearing gloves and armed with picks and trash bags provided by the commission, they collected and then tallied all the trash on log sheets. Almost 3,000 pieces of trash were picked up from the beach. This includes 1,082 cigarette butts, 298 food wrappers and 227 plastic bottle caps.

Officials pointed out that these numbers serve to remind that beaches should not be treated like dumping grounds and that everyone should help keep the shoreline clean.

The Glen Cove Beautification Commission sends special thanks goes to Boy Scout Troop B, Girl Scout Troop 1495, the Glen Cove Youth Bureau, students from Deasy and Landing Elementary Schools, the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department, Glen Cove Christian Church, Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club, the Thompson Park Neighborhood Association, Finley Middle School students and to St. Patrick’s Church. Thanks also went to Frank’s Beer and Soda for the water and Landing Bakery for providing pastries.
