NYSED: Oyster Bay State Aid to Drop
Total decrease of 2.6 percent expected for Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District.

The New York State Education Department announced preliminary district aid estimates for the 2013-14 school year Tuesday. The estimates included a 2.6 percent drop in aid for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District.
NYSED projected that OBEN's total aid including building and building reorganization incentives in 2013-14 would be $2,156,315, down from 2012-13's final total of $2,213,948. The change is a total decrease of $57,633, or 2.6 percent.
OBEN's state aid decreased $6,217, or 0.31 percent, in 2012-13, according to Newsday.

A total $20.81 billion budget was projected for the 2013-14 year statewide, an increase of about 3.02 percent.

Major decreases in OBEN's aid included a drop of $85,679 in high tax aid and a $6,049 decrease in high cost excess cost. Increases included $7,686 in software, library, and textbook aid and $9,273 in transportation.
These funds are the only ones that would come from the state level, and districts would still have to pass their own budgets.
