Oyster Bay Approves Budget, Elects New BOE Members

Jennifer Romeo, James McEvoy elected Tuesday to Oyster Bay-East Norwich Board of Education.

Oyster Bay residents turned out Tuesday to elect two new board members and approve the 2013-14 budget.

John McEvoy and Jennifer Romeo earned seats on the board Tuesday, reported Oyster Bay-East Norwich officials.

Residents also approved the $53,504,111 district budget for the 2013-14 school year 932-604, a 61 percent majority.

Trustees Jim Mattel and Michael Castellano will fulfill their terms and leave in July when the new members will be sworn in.

Also approved Tuesday were the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library budget.

Here were the full reported tallies:

  • John McEvoy: 1,060, winner
  • Jennifer Romeo: 662
  • Dr. Michael Castellano: 631
  • Harriet Dorfman: 528

Proposition 2 passed with 889 votes to 549. Proposition 3 passed 881-503 votes.
