• NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation Announces Annual Temporary Closure of Two LI Shellfishing Areas (longisland.com) — Shellfish harvesting in part of Oyster Bay Harbor will be shut down from Sept. 3–9 to protect public health during heavy Labor Day boating, with reopening expected Sept. 10. Local boaters are reminded that the harbor is a no-discharge zone and given details on free town pump-out boats and stations so they can help keep waters clean.
   

• Roller skaters push to reopen Bethpage skate park (newsday.com) — Skateboarders in the Town of Oyster Bay are pressing officials to guarantee a skate park in the redesigned Bethpage Community Park, which has been closed since early 2024 for toxic cleanup of the former Grumman site. The town has hired designers and is negotiating with Northrop Grumman over funding, but has not committed to restoring the beloved skate facility.
   

• Hicksville housing lottery offers apartments at below-market rents (newsday.com) — Residents in the Town of Oyster Bay can now apply through Sept. 28 for 19 below-market apartments at The Lisle in Hicksville, part of the town's downtown revitalization. The project, supported by Oyster Bay funds and Nassau IDA tax breaks, offers discounted studios to three-bedrooms near the LIRR station for income-qualified households.
