Spinello: Telephone Solicitation for Fire Department is A Scam
Callers ask for funds, falsely claiming that the donations are to benefit a burn center, the Glen Cove mayor said.

Glen Cove Mayor Reginald Spinello warns residents to beware of telephone calls from scam artists who claim they are from the Glen Cove Fire Department.
The caller asks for donations on behalf of a not-for-profit group “Firefighter Support Services,” and falsely states the donations are going to benefit a burn center, according to officials. All residents are urged to ihang up immediately if they receive such a call.
The City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department does not seek for donations by telephone, according to the city. The fire department’s fundraising is conducted only by mail.
