BIG!Workshops: Create Your Own Pendant Light with Urban Chandy

Have you been admiring the chandelier above our Gowanus Reuse
Center cash wrap? Well now is your time to make one of your very own!
Join the amazing spirits of Urban Chandy as you learn how to wire and frame out your own Pendant Light Fixture.

Cassidy Brush’s career took an unplanned turn one day in fall of
2011 when the fashion industry sales executive needed a lighting fixture
that for her Brooklyn office. She couldn’t find one that met her vision
of what she wanted so she designed and built an industrial-funky
fixture out of a piece of 20 inch by 30 inch reclaimed plywood which she
stained ebony and from which she hung 18 antique light bulbs. Cassidy
called it an “Urban Chandy.”  Little did the self-taught chandelier
designer-builder know at the time that her unique chandelier would lead
her into a new career as a lighting fixture entrepreneur. Today Urban
Chandy fixtures are designed and made in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill using a
variety of rescued and reclaimed wood and other materials with a wide
range of antique and Edison bulbs in the company’s Clinton Hill studio
in Brooklyn.
