Bus Countdown Clocks Added To LinkNYC Kiosks In Park Slope

Information on when the B63 would arrive was added to LinkNYC kiosks around Park Slope, Councilman Brad Lander announced.

PARK SLOPE, NY — Residents can now find out when their bus will arrive using LinkNYC's internet kiosks around Park Slope under a new pilot program by the city, Councilman Brad Lander announced.

Real-time countdown clocks of buses were added to to the public Wi-Fi hubs along the B63 route in the neighborhood with plans to extend it to all LinkNYC spots around the city if successful, Lander announced on Twitter.

As part of the pilot, nearly 20 LinkNYC hubs on Fifth Avenue had the bus information added to them last week, Technica.ly reported.

Spokespeople for LinkNYC and Lander did not respond to a request for comment on this article.

Lander previously called on the city to add the data to LinkNYC in September as a way to increase the coverage of bus countdown clocks around Park Slope without costing the city money.

"Many places the Links are currently are nearby or on the same block or in a location that's on the way — that's very convenient to bus riders," Lander previously told Patch.

"Surely, when the next bus is coming is as valuable to New Yorkers as when the next community board meeting is. I hope Link will work with New York City to make this happen."

The LinkNYC replaced pay phones in every borough in the city to offer free Wi-Fi, USB charging, phone calls and a large tablet with maps and directions. The devices originally had the ability to browse the web but it was disabled in 2016 after residents complained people watched porn on them.
