Butts Out! NYC Announces New E-Cigarette Bans

Smokers are barred from lighting up E-Cigarettes in the same places where traditional cigarettes are banned.

Don't touch that button -- E-Cigarettes are going the way of traditional smokes thanks to New York City's new ban.

At 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, legislators enacted a ban that would prohibit the use of E-cigarettes in the same places where conventional cigarettes are.

Lawmakers justified the decision due to lack of knowledge of the contents in E-Cigarette vapors.

"This lack of oversight, is placing individuals at risk because there is little known about the chemical make-up of the liquid nicotine or the harm to individuals from inhaling the water vapor directly or through secondhand exposure," the memo on the new bill read.

The bill, an amendment to the Smoke Free Air Act, was passed in December and drew immediate scrutiny by smokers groups.

It appears that the ban is attempted to be pushed statewide, according to the New York Post.
