Come Dance a Maypole at Brooklyn Contra's Annual May Day Ball!

Join us for our annual May Day Dance! We’ll have live tunes from the famous The Gaslight Tinkers', who’s blend of global rhythms with New England contra tunes lights up the dance floor! Plus our traditional Maypole, and calling from the incomparable Maia McCormick.

Contra is the perfect social dance to get new dancers started, with a 30-minute free lesson all you need to enjoy the next three hours of dancing.

Contra is an easy-to-learn folk dance (similar to square dancing with some swing dance flair) that comes with a free lesson and amazing live tunes! Originating in northern Appalachia based on English and French formal dances, contra is now danced around the country by multi-generational communities. Bringing a partner isn't necessary as folks switch partners between each dance.
