New York metropolitan area-based pop group Nova Social has been active in New York's underground pop scene for over ten years. The group’s new full-length album, For Any Inconvenience, once again mates their ambitious songwriting with electronic and dance music influences. Nova Social has previously released two other full-lengths on their Big Sleep Records imprint, The Jefferson Fracture (2002) and Other Words from Tomorrow's Dictionary (2007), plus a self-titled EP (2009), and they contributed their cover of The Specials' "Little Bitch" to the '80s movie tribute High School Reunion. The group also recorded the theme song to Cartoon Network’s "Calling Cat-22."
In addition to founding members David Nagler on vocals & synthesizer and Thom Soriano on guitar, the live version of Nova Social also features Dan Lipton (Sting, Burt Bacharach) on keyboard and synthesizer, Xavier (Scissor Sisters, The Rapture) on vocals, and a string trio comprised of Tom Chiu (Flux Quartet), Leyna Papach (JG Thirlwell's Manorexia, The Geraldine Fibbers) and Clara Kennedy (Justin Bond, Scott Matthew).
Singer David Nagler also plays guitar and piano in John Wesley Harding & The English UK, where his involvement in the "Cabinet of Wonders" variety shows have led to him sharing the stage with Rosanne Cash, A.C. Newman (of The New Pornographers), Andrew Bird, Tanya Donelly, Andrew VanWyngarden (of MGMT) and more. He served as musical director and co- producer on Chris Mills' acclaimed orchestral pop release The Wall to Wall Sessions (Ernest Jenning Record Co.), which led to his inclusion in The L Magazine's "Ultimate Brooklyn Supergroup." Additionally, he provided choral arrangements for Skull Orchard Revisited (Verse Chorus Press/Bloodshot Records) by Jon Langford of the Mekons, with members of the Burlington Welsh Male Chorus.
Thom Soriano records and remixes under the alias "The Kendal Mintcake." He has created remixes for a roster of artists including They Might Be Giants and Dan Bryk.
