Annie and The Beekeepers is an alt-folk trio from Brooklyn, NY. Drawing from the sounds of early 20th century Folk, Gospel, Country and Americana, the band blends a unique instrumentation with evocative layered vocal harmonies to create a rich and deeply satisfying original style.
Annie’s voice took me entirely by surprise. It has the sort of deep smooth sound you don’t often hear from such a young performer and it made me nostalgic for the great female singers I grew up with (Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, Sarah Mclachlan, etc.).
– The Big Red Apple
The Hot Holy Mess was conceived in a dream the night after a near-fatal encounter with a mountain-lion in Montana’s Bitterroot valley in 2009. The band developed its psychedelic-folk sound while driving vast distances in surprisingly compact vehicles to play in lofts, concert halls, and art galleries across the country. Every performance is an adventure careering from rabble-rousing sing-alongs to psychedelic incantations. Earlier in the century, members of the band honed their crafts in the service of artists as diverse as Anthony Braxton, Mos Def, Willie Nelson, and Cyro Baptista. Tonight they will play a special acoustic set as a trio featuring Skye Steele, Angelica Allen, and Mike Lavalle.
…intriguing brand of progressive roots music borrows liberally from funk, gospel, avant-jazz and bluegrass.
