The Yaozeki Big Band is co-lead by trombonist John Yao and pianist Yoichi Uzeki, two musicians with very diverse backgrounds and a singular musical vision. Together they have formed the Yaozeki Big Band, a 17-piece ensemble featuring some of the most innovative, swinging jazz musicians in New York City. Capturing the heart of big band with its big sound, the YBB’s original compositions and arrangements are inspired by Yao’s experience playing with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and Uzeki’s time playing with the Oliver Lake Big Band. The YBB is the culmination of jazz’s hottest and up-and-coming, as well as tried-and-truest musicians on the scene today.
