Good Samaritan Attacked After Trying To Stop Robbery On BK Subway

BROOKLYN, NY — A woman who tried to stop a robbery on a D train headed to Brooklyn on Sunday was brutally attacked by the would-be thief, police said.

The 53-year-old woman was riding a D train from Columbus Circle toward Brooklyn around 5:30 a.m. when she saw a man trying to take a book bag from a sleeping passenger, police said.

When the woman tried to wake up the sleeping straphanger, the would-be thief became angry and started assaulting her instead, police said.

The man kicked the woman repeatedly in the head and body before getting off the train at Union Street station in Brooklyn, police said. He would later board an R train and get off at 25th Street.

The woman was sent to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police caught photos of the suspect from the Brooklyn stations and said he appears to be in his 30s, about 6'0" tall, 220 pounds an has a medium build, black hair and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black durag, a black t-shirt, gray pants and gray sandals.
