Box Of Matches Ignites Inside Package, Sparks Brooklyn Bomb Scare
A smoking box inside a Sunset Park post office prompted bomb fears, but it turned out a box of matches somehow ignited on their own.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Turns out "strike anywhere" matches really do strike anywhere.
A box of those matches apparently lived up to their name when they ignited inside a parcel inside a Sunset Park post office on Monday, triggering a bomb scare, authorities said.
It took the NYPD's bomb squad to quell fears the smoking package was explosives being shipped through the mail at 900 Third Ave., near 33rd Street, a police spokesperson said.

Police and FDNY firefighters still evacuated the building over the "suspicious package" call at about 11:30 a.m.
They took a look inside the parcel and found a box of "strike anywhere" matches somehow sparked. Investigators are still trying to figure out how exactly, but there's a strong chance the final answer is up in smoke.
