The reason why was spelled out in another tweet: a confirmed case of COVID-19 in New York City that appears to have sent many residents into a food stocking spree.

The Post's story had another way to describe the scene: "organic food-buying frenzy." It painted a picture of "chaos" what it called the "socialist-tinged Union Street supermarket." One shopper told Post reporters she talked to another woman who said she got in a fight with someone who pushed past her for a can of tuna fish.

The story came out about a day after sharp-eyed Twitter followers called out the Post for a tweet about the first coronavirus patient in Manhattan. The paper posted a photograph with the story showing what appeared to be man of Asian descent wearing a face mask in Flushing, Queens, they charged.
