Park Slope Getting New Protected Bike Lane On Fourth Avenue

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Work has begun on a protected bike lane that will run along Fourth Avenue in Park Slope, city officials announced.

Department of Transportation officials have started installing a protected bike lane that will run between First and 15th streets, the agency announced on Facebook.

The hectic four-lane avenue will not lose any traffic lanes, but it will gain safety improvements such as new pedestrian islands and expanding on metered parking, transit officials said.

Plans also call for add plantings and trees, street seating and public art, according to the DOT's plan issued in 2017.

The new bike lane will provide cyclists with a four-mile protected route along Fourth Avenue between 65th Street in Sunset Park and Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill, Bklyner was first to report.
