Park Slope Singers Concert: Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass

Park Slope
Singers Concert: Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass

This June the Park
Slope Singers conclude their 21st season with a rousing performance of Haydn's
Missa No. 11 in D Minor, conducted by Ira Spaulding. The only performance of
this amazing work will be Sunday, June 8 at 5pm in Park Slope.

Written in 1798, Missa in Angustiis, or Mass in
a Time of Troubles, became indelibly linked with Horatio Nelson several years
later when Nelson defeated Napoleon at the Battle of the Nile. Now commonly
known as Lord Nelson's Mass, it is considered one of Haydn's greatest works.

Making this performance especially memorable
will be the inclusion of an orchestra - the first time a full orchestra has
performed with the chorus since their performance at Carnegie Hall. The
introduction of the triumphant trumpets and soaring strings blend exquisitely
with the chorus and soloists in a moving musical experience.

The Park Slope Singers' performance will take
place in St. Augustine Church, a large Gothic building just a few short blocks
from the transit hub at Atlantic Avenue / Barclay Center (which is also the
terminus for the Long Island Railroad). Tickets are $20.00 with a $5.00
discount for senior citizens and students with valid ID. Tickets
can be purchased at the door 45 minutes before the concert or in advance with
Brown Paper Tickets at http://parkslopesingers.bpt.me.

All ticket holders are invited to attend a
reception immediately following the concert.
