
Five students were injured when an SUV slammed into the children standing around on a Maspeth sidewalk before the start of the school day. According to a witness, the SUV driver was trying to pull into a parking spot when his vehicle suddenly plowed into the students.
The vehicle crashed into a parking meter and a nearby sign. At least three of the victims were girls, with one student suffering a serious leg injury. The FDNY said all the victims were expected to survive the crash. The driver was given a breathalyzer at the scene and was cooperating with cops.

The city is also enforcing speeding with its red-light cameras, aggressive action by the NYPD and by creating at least 11 school zones where the speed limit is reduced to 20 mph.
