2 Patchogue-Medford Students Test Positive For Coronavirus
A high school student and elementary school student in the district recently tested positive and are in quarantine, school officials say.
PATCHOGUE-MEDFORD, NY -- Two students from Patchogue-Medford High School and Tremont Elementary School recently tested positive for coronavirus, the school district announced on Thursday.
According to Superintendent Donna Jones, both students are currently in self-quarantine and school officials are working with the Suffolk County Department of Health to work on contact tracing and next steps.
"Due to federal health privacy laws, information regarding the student’s identity cannot be released," she wrote in both letters to parents. "Please respect this individual’s privacy during this difficult time."

Health officials are responsible for contact tracing with anybody that may have been in direct or close contact with the students, and they will issue quarantine orders if applicable.
In addition, Jones reminds parents to keep their children if they are waiting for the result of a COVID test, until a negative test has been registered.

"Please note that our hybrid model of instruction allows for less students in the buildings with less direct contact, as well as the opportunity to deep clean on Wednesdays between the cohorts in order to help contain the spread of the virus," Jones wrote.
According to the NY State COVID report card, two students at Tremont Elementary School tested positive for the coronavirus as of Thursday.
