Bay Elem. Car Wash Fundraises for Scholarships
Community raises money in honor of alum Meghan Moffitt.
In early May, a car wash fundraiser was held to honor Patchogue-Medford alumni Meghan Moffitt and to sponsor a scholarship in her memory.
The fundraiser started years ago by Kathy Ann LoSchiavo-Martell who is a teacher for Bay Elementary School and had been Moffitt's kindergarten teacher. Moffitt had passed away from cancer.
"I had spoken to Meghan's mom a few months before [Meghan] passed away. She was in remission but within a short time she had passed. I decided that I had to do something to carry Meghan's name on, to carry her cause on. Meghan was very involved in community activities, even when she was very ill," LoSchiavo-Mertell said.

Approximately 30 adults and children helped with the fundraiser. Meghan Moffitt's uncle Jimmy Carfora was glad to help out at the event.
"Meghan was a great kid. She was smart and fun. She would be here helping out," Carfora said.
