Donna Jones Officially Appointed As Superintendent Of Schools

Dr. Jones, who was interim superintendent of the Patchogue-Medford School District, was hired Monday night.

PATCHOGUE-MEDFORD, NY - Dr. Donna Jones was officially hired as the superintendent of schools for the Patchogue-Medford School District. Jones was hired at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting through June of 2023. She will serve as the 13th superintendent in the district's 150 year history.

Jones took over as interim superintendent in July after Michael Hynes resigned to accept the position of superintendent in another school district.

"It's my humble honor and privilege to serve the Patchogue-Medford School District in this capacity. I'm delighted for the opportunity to be afforded this and am thankful for the support of the board of education and community to continue the hard work we must do to make sure every child succeeds," she told Patch.

Prior to superintendent, Jones spent 10 years in the district working previously as as deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent for business. She has worked in education for the past 27 years, working at four school district during this time. Jones also held the role of superintendent of schools at the Brentwood School District.

"I care about children tremendously and work with my team to make sure we make the best choices academically, socially, emotionally and provide the best resources for children," she added. "I will continue to work with the community, the staff, the board of education, and all other stakeholders to provide the best opportunities for children."

In a statement, Board of Education President Anthony O'Brien said appointing Jones as superintendent is an "exciting step" for the district.

"Dr. Jones has been a very important part of our school community for over 10 years. She has managed our Business and Operations areas with unparalleled skill and creativity," he said. "She is responsible for many of the programs which we have in place addressing the physical, emotional, academic and social growth of our students. We are confident that she will continue to excel as the new Superintendent of our School District."
