Mohawk Indian Community Visits The Plaza Cinema

Join us in traditional dance, music, storytelling and films that will show you a world you may not be familiar with, but one that continues to thrive today. The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center in Patchogue will be hosting a unique fund-raising event to benefit the traditional Mohawk Community of Kanatsiohareke, located in central New York State on the north shore of the Mohawk River.  Kanatsiohareke is dedicated to revitalizing the traditional culture, spirituality and language of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois). The funds that are raised during this event will help Kanatsiohareke continue offering Mohawk Language Immersion Classes, Haudenosaunee related conferences, workshops and classes and maintain an organic farm. You can read more about Kanatsiohareke at www.mohawkcommunity.com. There will be traditional music, dance and storytelling.  A variety of films will be shown with the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.  Native crafts, books and CD’s will be available for purchase.

When: Friday, March 30, 6:00pm-9:30pm; Saturday, March 31, 9:00am-3:00pm; 7:00pm-9:30pm
