In honor of V-day (the global movement to end violence against women and girls), a cast of Long Island women will be staging a benefit performance of the Vagina Monologues at The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center in Patchogue on Friday, April 20 at 8 pm.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls as well as raise money for local beneficiaries that are working to end violence.
This V-Day benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues will support Girls Incorporated ® of Long Island (GILI), a nationally recognized non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold. We are at the heart of girls’ lives and at the forefront of the girls’ rights movement. With programs that are grounded in research and evaluated in the field, Girls Inc. celebrates and empowers girls, and advocates for an equitable world. GILIs programs deliver engaging, age-appropriate information to help girls, ages 6-18, develop the skills and self-confidence necessary to navigate successfully through the joys and challenges of growing up in today’s society.

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, an award-winning play, is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.
