Past results: Longwood defeated Patchogue-Medford 27-7 the last time these two teams played on Oct. 17, 2009 at Longwood.
Last week: Patchogue-Medford opened its 2011 home slate with a 7-6 to Lindenhurst. The Raiders defense held Ken Skon and Lindenhurst to just a second half touchdown but the offense had trouble moving the ball against the Bulldogs. Pat-Med used a double tight end set for most of the night, trying to run the ball right at the Lindenhurst defense. Chris Makulik got the majority of the carries for the Raiders.

Longwood is coming off one of its biggest victories in recent memory. The Lions walked into the home of defending Suffolk County champion and longtime rival William Floyd and beat the Colonials 14-12. Longwood’s defensive line helped shutdown all-county runner Stacey Bedell.
What to watch for: The biggest matchup in this game will be in the trenches. Longwood has one of the strongest lines in Suffolk County with Syracuse bound Omari Palmer and guard/defensive tackle Darius Green. The Lion’s ran for 214 yards against a tough Floyd defense and held Beddel to just 54 yards, one week after Beddel shredded Lindenhurst for 265 yards and five touchdowns on just seven carries.
For the Raiders to have a shot in this ball game they must do a better job to control the line of scrimmage and not be pushed around by the Lion’s mammoth lines. Much easier said than done.
