Girls Volleyball Defeat Sachem East, 3-1

Megan Anderson, of Pat-Med, voted player of the game by team.

The Patchogue-Medford High School girls varsity volleyball defeated Sachem East 3-1 in a match held at Patchogue-Medford High School on Wednesday.

The Raiders won the first two games (25-7, 25-14) before dropping the third game to East and then winning the match in the fourth game.

"They worked hard and won it after losing a third game. Sometimes the momentum switches to the other team and the girls didn't let that happen," Raiders coach Carrie Gangl said.

Megan Anderson was voted the player of the game by her team.  She had two blocks and two kills, including one at the end of the fourth game that put Pat-Med one point away from victory.

Gangl also praised senior setter Erin McGiff, noting her smart play, and Taylor Kierna for her digs and solid serve receiving skills.

To improve, Gangl said that the team needs to work on being quicker with their footwork and in transition.

With the win, the Raiders improve their record to 3-2 and play their next match on the road at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Commack.
