LIRR Train Delayed After Vehicle Slides Into Pole At Yaphank Station: MTA
No one was hurt, a spokesman for the agency says.
YAPHANK, NY — A Long Island Rail Road train was delayed at the Yaphank station on Thursday night after a vehicle hit a patch of ice and slid into a pole holding the crossing gate on Moriches-Middle Island Road, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman said.
The driver was not hurt, but the vehicle ended up on the LIRR's right-of-way, according to the agency.
It happened at around 10:15 p.m., and it took about 90 minutes for officials to clear the scene.

In that time, the 8:54 p.m. Greenport train to Ronkonkoma was delayed at Riverhead.
It was one of two crashes locally.
