Long Island Man Convicted Of Sexually Abusing Child Over 5-Year Period

Police were notified when the family's pediatrician learned of the abuse, which began when the victim was 8 years old.

A Mastic man was convicted Monday afternoon of committing sex crimes against a young girl over a 5-year period that began when the victim was 8 years old, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

The jury, after deliberating for five hours over two days, convicted Guadencio Chino, 53, of 4 Terry Road, of first degree course of sexual conduct, first degree criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child.

The trial began on Oct. 10. Following the guilty verdict, judge Barbara Kahn remanded Chino to the county jail without bail and certified him as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 15. Chino faces a prison sentence of between 10 to 40 years, Spota said.
