UPDATE: Cops Release ID Of Man In 'Serious' No. Bellport Jeep Crash

He was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Station Road when he lost control of the vehicle, cops say.

UPDATE: Thursday 8:21 p.m.: Gerold Avant, 61, of Rocky Point has been identified as the man who was injured in the crash in North Bellport on Wednesday, police said.

NORTH BELLPORT, NY — A man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in North Bellport on Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.

The 61-year-old man was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Station Road when he lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a utility pole, said police, adding that he was "the sole occupant in the vehicle" and he was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with "serious injuries."

His name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, according to police.
