Medford Librarian’s Book Tasting Honoring Receipt of Grant
Susan Miele, and the Medford Elementary Library, received a $1,000 grant.
From Patch-Med Schools: Susan Miele, and the Medford Elementary Library, received a $1,000 grant as part of the 2018 Read Across America – NY “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers”.
This grant was facilitated by PMCT Outreach, specifically Kerrie Simeone and Nadine Scalzo, in partnership with NYSUT, AFT, and First Book Inc. Receipt of the grant allowed Medford Library’s acquisition of approximately 100 new books for their diverse readers.
On March 16, Ms. Miele hosted a “book tasting” to allow the building teachers and district administrators the opportunity to sample some of the new titles, which included: Lola reads to Leo, My Name is Yoon, Jackie Robinson: He Lead the Way, Malala: A Hero for All and many others.
The books Ms. Miele selected can provide students with insight into the differences that come from race, gender, language, abilities and more. Thank you to Sue Miele, Kerrie Simeone, Nadine Scalzo and PMCT.
