Officers Rescue Man Stranded In Great South Bay
The 30-year-old was stranded after his jet ski struck a sandbar and became disabled Friday night.
BELLPORT, NY - Officers rescued a man who was stranded in the Great South Bay after his jet ski became disabled Friday night, according to Suffolk Police..
The 30-year-old Rocky Point man was driving a 2020 Kawasaki jet ski in the bay when the vehicle struck a sandbar near Ridge Island and became disabled at 7:35 p.m. The man used his cellphone to call 911, but his phone lost battery power shortly after he made the call.
A helicopter searched the area and found the man. Officers aboard the Marine Mike and Marine Kilo were then guided by the helicopter to the man's location, but neither boat could reach him due to the shallow water conditions.

As a result, Marine X-Ray was launched carrying a motorized Jon boat; a small craft designed to travel short distances in shallow water. Two officers manned the Jon boat and reached the man at 11:55 p.m. He was then taken aboard the Jon boat uninjured and was returned safely to shore.
