There are more than 40 students in the club who compete weekly in practices.

From Patchogue-Medford School District: Patchogue-Medford’s varsity and JV academic teams both defeated Westhampton in a competition recently.

It is an academic trivia Jeopardy-like competition. Questions range in topics from math, science, history, geography, current events, computer science, authors, books and some sports and pop culture.

There are more than 40 students in the club who compete weekly in practices. The students have a broad academic background and can answer questions quickly.

“It is all about speed at the competition level,” said team advisor, Kathy Bucaria.

Zach Hicks was the captain of JV last year and they went undefeated during the season. He is now the captain of the varsity and Alejandro Ramirez is the captain of the JV.

Varsity beat Westhampton, 76-60. JV won, 158-71.

“Both were great team efforts,” said Bucaria.
