PATCHOGUE, NY — A 29-year-old Patchogue man was charged with animal cruelty after Suffolk investigators say he failed to provide adequate food and vet care for his three-year-old pit bull.

Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Chief Roy Gross said detectives charged Reed Lewis with failing to provide necessary sustenance, including food and veterinary care, to his dog, “Princess,” on Sept. 4. The dog was “severely underweight with her ribs and bones clearly visible” and she also had “pus coming from her eyes” when investigators examined her, Gross said.

The dog was seized and taken to the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, according to Gross.
