Plans To Mark 20th Anniversary Of 9/11 Across Brookhaven Town
Memorial services, other events will honor those who perished in the terror attacks in NY, Pa., and Washington, DC.

PATCHOGUE, NY — A number of local events have been planned across Brookhaven Town to mark the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Here's a breakdown of how some local organizations will honor the memories of the people who perished:
PATCHOGUE:

- The Patchogue-Medford Library is hosting a virtual tour of the 9/11 Memorial Museum in lower Manhattan. To watch the tour, which will be available until Sept. 14, enter the password NC9DNV. For more information, click here.

- The library will also host "This Very Tree: a 9/11 Storytime," which tells the story of the Survivor Tree that stands at ground zero, and a craft-making session afterward. The event will run from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
- St. Joseph's College's Alumni Association has planned a 9/11 Changing of the flag ceremony for Thursday at O'Connor Hall Quad. Charles Gambino, a 2019 graduate who serves as a board member of the 9/11 Responder's Remembered Park in Nesconset, will be the alumni speaker for the afternoon. Visitors to the campus are asked to wear masks while in any college building regardless of vaccination status, as well as to maintain social distancing guidelines. It starts at 12:40 p.m.
- There are two memorial services planned in Patchogue on Saturday. The first begins at 9 a.m. at 9/11 Memorial Park, which is located at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Maiden Lane. The event is being organized by the American Legion Post 269. The second ceremony will be hosted by the Patchogue Fire Department on Jennings Avenue. It begins at 5:30 p.m.
MASTIC:
- The Mastic Fire Department's remembrance ceremony, which has been billed as a multi-community unity ceremony, is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The event will include an honor guard and the presentation of the United States' colors by local organizations, as well as a white chair memorial, guest speakers, and a community prayer. PORT JEFFERSON:

- A candlelight remembrance will be held Saturday at noon at the Harborfront Park at the Port Jefferson Village Harbor. The event is organized by The Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America Vigiano Brothers Lodge #3436.
HOLBROOK:
- Unique Fitness is holding a 9/11 workout fundraiser to benefit the Brotherhood of the Fallen. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
