PMHS Student Raises $10,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital

From Pat-Med Schools: Patchogue-Medford High School senior Taylor Hanscom organized and executed on a garage sale for the eighth straight year that will benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital.

The sale was held at her family’s home in Patchogue and was supported by many of her local neighbors. She has now raised more than $10,000 on these garage sales over the years, eclipsing an incredible number based on grass roots volunteerism and community service. The first two years it was just a lemonade stand and then morphed into the bigger yard sale for years three through eight.

“I love to give back and put time into a foundation that stands for giving in times of struggle,” said Hanscom. “To know that I'm able to make someone’s life in need have more comfort or help them with their medical needs has been a very uplifting experience. I love supporting this organization and all it stands for and my hope is to make a difference in a child's life. A simple idea and a desire to help has led to a great success supporting St. Jude's.”

A well-rounded student, the Canaan and Saxton alum is the treasurer of the Key Club, a member of various honor societies, and on the varsity tennis team. She is also in the top one percent of the class based on academic rank.

Thanks for all you do, Taylor! #GoPatMed
