Police: Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit by Van in Mastic
The crash occurred Wednesday morning.

A 61-year-old man riding his bicycle in Mastic Wednesday morning was killed when he was struck by a van operated by an unlicensed driver, police said.
According to police, Peter Accardi Jr., was riding his bike eastbound, facing westbound traffic on Montauk Highway, near Fulton Avenue when his bicycle swerved from the shoulder into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2013 Ford van at bout 11 a.m.
Accardi was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, Marybeth Veerman, 51, of Port Jefferson Station, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with non-life threatening injuries. Veerman was issued a field appearance ticket charging her with third degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
